History of Coral Waters Estate, Innes Park

Coral Waters and Innes Park were originally part of the Brown Brothers property "Barolin Station”. The first residence to be built on the coast between Burnett Heads and Elliott Heads was "Barolin Homestead” situated high on the Esplanade in the area now known as Coral Cove.  It was constructed by Nugent Wade Brown who acted as the agent and station manager for Brown Brothers.  In 1860 the property was used to fatten bullocks, breed shorthorns and devon stud cattle as well as draught horses and blood horses. In 1881 the ‘Barolin Station’ was sold to a Maryborough syndicate.

In 1912 a surveyor, Sidney North Innes bought Barolin Station and resided in the homestead.  In 1930 Sid and his wife donated land on the esplanade for public use.

The new village of Innes Park saw it’s beginnings in 1950 when Sidney Burnett (son of Sidney North Innes) approved the surveying of a 27 acre park area along the Esplanade and the mouth of Palmer’s Creek with 35 blocks set behind.

Innes Park has now blossomed into a delightful coastal community, with a large expanse of oceanfront parkland and recreational area that provides a network of coastal pathways, playgrounds, skatebowl, volleyball court, BBQ and picnic facilities for the community.

In 2001, the Deering Family purchased their dream property, a coastal farm situated behind the Esplanade of Innes Park, within easy walking distance of the beach and only a short drive from Bundaberg.  They built their dream home and raised their family along with a collection of ‘named cows’ on the property.

In 2006, they decided to share the unique lifestyle and location with others by creating a small boutique development called Coral Waters Estate.  Stages 1-4 were constructed and sold. In 2011, Stage 5a was released for sale. Once complete, the Council approved Stage 5b, will provide a formal pathway to link Coral Waters to the Esplanade, parkland and Palmers Creek.

The Deerings’ still reside on the property and take great pride in keeping the estate well maintained.
